I was born and raised in Austin Texas. In my birth certificate I am categorized as “American”, and even though I am an American citizen my blood is full of Mexican heritage. Something that I am very proud of; but am always shamed for. People love to tell me that I look white but not completely white, more like something in between, something that confuses me. Because even though I speak Spanish fluently, live by my Mexican culture, I will never be considered fully Mexican. And even if I follow every guideline in the “How to be American” guide book, I will never be considered American. Por esa razón, for that reason, no soy ni de aquí ni de aya.
