For my most recent project in 8th grade science I worked with a partner to write a professional lab report about the chemical reaction between two substances: Hydrogen and Oxygen.
I would rate my overall effort on this project as 3.5 on a scale of 1 to 5. 3.5 means I am proud of my work, but I could have worked harder. I think my effort was a 3.5 because I contributed my parts and I worked with my partner, but I did not go back and edit based on suggestions I received. Honestly, I wasn’t really interested in this project, but I did complete the work.
One thing that was hard about this project was that I’m not really interested in chemistry. I want to go into the media tech pathway and I don’t see how chemistry is related. I did like drawing the pictures for the lab report – maybe my love of drawing is a good sign media tech is right for me!
The thing that I am most proud of about this project, as I said before, is the drawings. I think my atoms and molecules look really nice. I am also proud that I helped my partner with her drawings. Here is an example of one of my drawings from the report:

If I had to do this project over again I would have gone back and made revisions to improve my writing. My teacher and peers made good suggestions, but I just ran out of time to go and make the changes. I spent more time on the drawings instead.
This project helped me prepare for high school by showing me what kind of work is expected in high school level science courses. We will need to write lab reports in high school and college and I think doing this practice lab report will help me structure my time and effort better in the future. The project also helped me understand the atom better. I remember the protons, electrons, and neutrons better now that I drew the particles in the atom.
Though this project wasn’t about something that interested me especially, I am proud that I finished. I am glad to be able to share my report with my parents and peers to help them learn about chemistry too.
