Runner Pros-Haley, Viviana, Dimanique, Diamond

Howdy we are Runner Pros. We are consisted of Haley the completer/finisher, Diamond the solver, Viviana the team worker, and Dimanique the implementer. As a team we have set a mission statement, picked a joint we are all passionate about protecting, and set roles among ourselves. This semester we plan to communicate better and use our time more efficiently than we did in the past semester.

We are passionate about the knee because there are many knee injuries that occur in sports. Especially sports that involve running and quick changes in direction. (also known as cutting sports). The knee is the largest joint in the body and one of the most easily injured joints.  A common injury of the knee is the ACL (anterior cruciate ligament). An  ACL injury is usually caused  by a sudden twisting motion.  In 2010 there were roughly 10.4 million office visits because of knee injuries such as fractures, dislocations, sprains, and ligament tears. Knee injury is one of the most common reasons people go and see their doctors.

Because of the high risk of knee injuries The Runner Pros are very passionate about creating a device that protects all parts of the knee. From out research and information that we have collected in class we know that there are a wide variety of injury prevention devices for the knee. The most common devices were knee “sleeves”, strap on knee braces (soft and hard), elastic wraps and under the knee adjustable straps. Screen Shot 2016-01-11 at 6.51.55 PMScreen Shot 2016-01-11 at 6.52.06 PMScreen Shot 2016-01-11 at 6.52.23 PMScreen Shot 2016-01-11 at 6.52.44 PM

Our second choice joint is the wrist, because just like the knee it is a commonly used joint that is injured very easily. Most injuries to the wrist are a result of a fall on out stretched hands. Tendons in the wrist are also easily inflamed from overuse or repetitive use, resulting in tendonitis.  Though the wrist joint does not interest us as much as the knee, we know that it is equally important and also needs protection from injury.

As fellow athletes and runners we are very passionate about protecting the knee, because many of us at Runner Pro have experience with knee injuries or have seen teammates suffer from these injuries. We would really like to continue our project to protect the knee from injury. From our research we have already had many ideas, but mainly to create a device that combines all the products on the market and to make a device that protects all parts of the knee from injury, so that athletes and runners alike can depend on just one device instead of many.
