I hope you had a great winter break, I know that it was a great recess for the Comfort4U. When we convened the second week of January we decided to expand the company. The original team, which is Claudia, Daisy, Susette, and myself, have decided to become the marketing department for Comfort4U. We decided to hire a team of engineers to prototype our design, and we hired a team that would do research and testing on those prototypes.

So today I introduce Gaby, Amanda, and Brianna, our new Prototyping team, and Deanna and Kaiyla, our new research and development department. We will be working side by side these two teams to create and market our seat cover.

Throughout my high school career I have never been introduced to the marketing process, converting our department solely to marketing was quite a transition. I had no idea what marketing was and how it worked. So I decided to talk with my mom, who majored in marketing to explain the basis for me. So here’s what I got:

Marketing is the action or business of selling a product or service, including market research and advertisement.

This is a marketing tree that explains the contributing factors to a successful marketing strategy.

Marketing can be divided into two processes: research and promotion.

Research

While researching it is essential that our company, Comfort4U is looking at relevant information regarding our product. In the beginning stages of our research we want to look at who the target market is, meaning that our market is the people willing to buy or pay for our product. Our plan is to market our chair cover to schools, in order to improve attentiveness, focus, productivity, and happiness. From there we have to talk to those schools or school districts and ask if they are willing to buy our seat covers. We also want to keep in mind that our product could already be on the market. We need to look at who our competition is, and identify what our product has that gives it more value than said competition. After that is done we will have to begin our marketing plan.

Comfort4U is very excited to see how this next stage of marketing will turn out. This is where our creative outlet will shine.

Promotion

As soon as our marketing plan is reviewed and accepted, the stage is to promote the chair cover. This includes advertisements, commercials, and person to person marketing. While ads and commercials are the most commonly understood forms of marketing, person to person marketing happens all the time. It’s when you go to the store and someone hands you a free sample, or when you pass a store and they hand you  a flyer about a new special they are having. Comfort4U has seen all these examples of marketing and have taking into consideration these examples. We haven’t set anything in stone yet, until we get our research done, but we are very excited for this step in our marketing process.
